LT Alumni Event: Political Campaigns - The Inside Scoop

  • Leadership Tomorrow's Offices 1301 5th Avenue, Suite 1500 Seattle, WA 98101 (map)

Have you ever thought about running for office? Do you want to work on a political campaign?

The 2020 elections will be a pivotal point in the United States, and this is the year to get involved! Karen Besserman, LT’03, Executive Director of Emerge Washington, will discuss what it means to run for office. Or if you want to work with candidates, she will cover how to get involved and offer strategic support to campaigns. You will also have a chance to hear from and meet LT alumni who have experience running for office—including Ryan Calkins, LT’16 (Commissioner, Port of Seattle), David Chen, LT’17 (ran for Shoreline City Council), Jamila Taylor, LT’13 (ran for Federal Way City Council), Girmay Zahilay, LT’19 (King County Council), and Janice Zahn, LT’17 (Bellevue City Council).

This workshop is for you if you are:

• Thinking of running for office

• Considering getting involved in a campaign

• Wanting to better understand how the election process works

• Eager to hear from LT alumni who have run for office

• Interested in meeting other civically engaged leaders
