Lunch with LT Leaders: Fred Rivera, LT'06, Seattle Mariners

Join us to talk with Fred Rivera, LT’06, the Executive Vice President, Corporate Secretary & General Counsel for the Seattle Mariners. Fred will discuss his leadership and community-centered approach to his work with the Mariners. He’ll also share his thoughts about the Mariners next season and what it was like to be part of the team that broke the 20-year playoff drought! He will be interviewed by Sandra Madrid, LT’89.

Our Lunch with LT Leaders series highlights inspiring LT alumni who are using their leadership to influence positive change in our region and beyond. Through Zoom, featured leaders share their leadership journeys and then open the conversation for questions. Each session takes place from 12:00-1:00 p.m. So, grab your lunch and join us! You must register ahead of time to receive the Zoom link.

Speaker Bio

Fred Rivera, LT’06, is the Executive Vice President and General Counsel for the Seattle Mariners. Fred joined the Mariners in 2017 from the Perkins Coie law firm, where he served as the Seattle Office Managing Partner. In addition to overseeing the Mariners’ legal affairs, Fred is responsible for the team’s community impact and philanthropic efforts, government affairs, and real estate development. Fred previously served as a trial attorney in the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice (1993-1998) and Vice President at Fannie Mae (2006-2008). Fred is on the Board of Directors of Olympia, Washington-based Heritage Financial Corp., and its subsidiary Heritage Bank, and OAC Services, Inc. He also serves on several non-profit and business organization boards, including the United Way of King County, Legal Foundation of Washington, Association of Washington Businesses, and Downtown Seattle Association. He is the past president of the Latina/o Bar Association of Washington and regional president of the Hispanic National Bar Association.

Dr. Sandra Madrid, LT’89, served as the part-time Special Assistant to the UW Vice President for Minority Affairs and Vice Provost for Diversity from 2013-2016. Previously she served as the Assistant Dean for Students and Community Outreach at the UW School of Law for 20+ years. She received her Ph.D. and M.A. from the University of Washington and her B.A. from Colorado State University in Pueblo, Colorado. Although retired, she currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of United Way of King County (past chair and co-chair of the UWKC Campaign) and the YWCA of Seattle/King/Snohomish Counties (past chair). She also serves on several advisory boards including SAM Education & Community Engagement Committee; SAM Equity Task Force; Seattle Colleges Chancellor’s Advisory Council and The Advisory Council for the Equity Can't Wait Campaign. In addition, she coordinates the Seattle Nordstrom Latina Summit and is the founder and facilitator for the Cinco de Mayo Celebration, celebrating 29 years.
