Celebrating 40 Years: Inspiring Stories from Our Alumni - Steve Dubiel, LT’01

Engaged leadership is the foundation of thriving communities.

For 40 years, Leadership Tomorrow has worked at the forefront of civic engagement to cultivate a network of inclusive, courageous, and curious leaders across Puget Sound. As we celebrate this special milestone, we are proud to highlight stories from LT alumni who continue to shape our region into a vibrant, vital community where all can thrive. Explore moments from their leadership journeys, past and present, as we consider collectively what challenges and opportunities lay ahead in the next 40 years—and beyond.

Steve served on LT’s Curriculum Committee for two years. In this photo, he’s leading a discussion at the LT’15 Environment Challenge Day.

I joined Leadership Tomorrow in 2000, shortly after moving to Seattle to take a job as the executive director of EarthCorps where I served for 22 years. I was attracted to LT as an opportunity to build my Seattle network. More than 20 years later, I still tap into my LT network, which not only includes my 2001 cohort, but an amazing LT staff and LT alumni from other cohorts with whom I regularly interact.

LT provides a shared experience that fosters strong connections over time. Not only did I learn during my LT year, I've stayed connected to LT in ways that help me to continue to learn, grow, and serve our community. LT's 40th anniversary provides an opportunity to reflect on the collective impact that thousands of LT alumni have on our region, as well as ways in which the program has evolved and needs to continue evolving to meet the changing needs of our region for decades to come.

I am immensely proud to call myself an LT alum, and I’m grateful for my LT network.
